Drs. Cipes, Chisholm and 7 team members attended the 67^th annual American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.   They joined over 6,300 participants from around the world to attend both clinical and scientific sessions.

While in Boston, our team attended a variety of continuing education courses.    Office Manager, Donna, and administrative professional, Diane, attended a course on the Affordable Care Act and its impact on Pediatric Dental coverage and the new procedure codes for 2014/2015.   This information will help them answer parents’ questions on covered services and how to maximize the benefits their plan has to offer.   Team members also attended a course on “Autism: behaviors, issues and management” presented by Dr. Purnima Hernandez and learned more about Applied Behavioral Analysis and how it can be useful in dentistry.   Dr. Chisholm attended a panel discussion on “Periodontal Issues and Tobacco Cessation in Children/Adolescents.”    We were reminded that 89% of current smokers start before 18 years old, so it is critical that we discuss and advise our patients of the risks of smoking, and help them quit if they have already started.  At CPD we feel it is very important to keep up-to-date with the most current medical and dental literature and recommendations, so that we can provide our patients with the highest quality of care.

At a ceremony held during the annual College of Diplomates breakfast meeting, Dr. Cipes was recognized for her service as Chairperson of the Foundation of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.   The mission of the College of Diplomates of the ABPD is to encourage and promote the pursuit of excellence in pediatric dentistry.  It’s Foundation is a charitable trust which funds scientific programs and annual awards sponsored by the College of Diplomates.    Dr. Cipes also had the pleasure of presenting the Foundation’s “Mentor of the Year” award, to one of her very own mentors, Dr. Norman Tinanoff.

We took full advantage of our trip to Boston to do a little team building.  We all enjoyed a Duck Tour, driven by Disco Dan, learning the history of Boston and seeing the sights.  Of course, no trip to Boston is complete without dinner on Newbury Street!
