Since 1977 the first full week in March has been designated Dental Assistant Recognition Week. The theme for this year Dental Assistants-Our Heart Goes into Every Smile recognizes the important role assistants play in the health, happiness and well-being of our patients and team. They are skilled technicians during clinical procedures while at the same time providing reassurance and calm for nervous patients.
The profession of dental assisting continues to diversify and expand. In addition to chairside assisting and taking radiographs; our dental assistants work tirelessly behind the scenes sterilizing instruments and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our patients. We’re proud of the fact that Samira, LaTeicia and Katie are all Certified Dental Assistants or CDA’s, a credential granted by the Dental Assisting National Board. In addition to their formal education they have successfully completed a three part national exam consisting of chairside assisting, infection control and radiation health and safety.
As you might imagine, 2021 brought an additional layer of complexity to the profession. Not surprisingly, Katie, LaTeicia and Samira stepped up to the plate and embraced the many changes to our workflow resulting from the Covid 19 epidemic. They’ve all learned many new skills and have proven themselves eager and willing to help their teammates when needed. Working side by side with them brings a smile to our face because we know how much they care about our patients’ health and well-being.
“Our Heart Goes into Every Smile” is even truer this year than ever before.
