Memorial Day weekend, Drs. Cipes, Chisholm and Beauvais attended the 77th annual American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry meeting in Toronto, Canada.  They joined thousands of colleagues to attend clinical and scientific sessions to enhance their knowledge of pediatric dentistry.

The Scientific Program Committee organized a great lineup of speakers and topics; ranging from pediatric clinical care to materials and administrative tips.  The doctors attended excellent courses on pediatric periodontal health and early orthodontic care.  They also attended the College of Diplomates meeting that featured Dr. Michael Casas from the Hospital for Sick Children and Dr. Ben Ganss from the University of Toronto who lectured on hypo mineralized or “chalky” teeth”.   This condition affects many of our patients and can be very challenging to treat.  Drs. Casa and Ganss discussed the efforts of scientists to understand the causes of the condition which hopefully will lead us to how we can prevent its occurrence.

The weather was beautiful and the city of Toronto was very welcoming.  In addition to learning, we took the time to enjoy the local sites and catch up with colleagues from across North America.  The doctors visited the Hockey Hall of Fame and the the Art Museum of Toronto where they enjoyed exhibits focusing on Canadian art.  A highlight of the meeting was the welcome reception hosted by the AAPD featuring the Canadian group The Barenaked Ladies.
