What is a Pediatric Dentist?
Many people ask us ‘what is a Pediatric Dentist?’. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Pediatric Dentistry is “an age-defined specialty that provides both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs.” So in other words, we are the pediatricians of dentistry.
Drs. Cipes and Chisholm both completed their Pediatric Dentistry certificate at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. The 2-3 year program provides additional specialized knowledge beyond the D.M.D. training. The advanced program provides education and clinical experience concentrating on children and those with special health care needs. Dr. Cipes also received a Master’s Degree in Dental Sciences.
As Pediatric Dentists Drs. Cipes and Chisholm are actively involved in the AAPD, and pride themselves on staying up-to-date in their field. They are also both board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
