Connecticut Magazine as Top Dentists 2012
Monica Cipes, D.M.D., M.S.D., and Elizabeth Cipes Chisholm, D.M.D., were recognized by Connecticut Magazine as Top Dentists in 2012. Winners were chosen by asking Connecticut dentists who they would send their loved ones
to for care. Drs. Cipes and Chisholm were pleased to be honored by their
peers in this way.

Cipes Pediatric Dentistry attends American Academy
of Pediatric Dentistry Annual Meeting in San Diego
WEST HARTFORD, Ct., June 5, 2012…Dr. Monica Cipes and Dr. Elizabeth
Chisholm attended the 65th American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
(AAPD) Annual Session in San Diego, CA.
While in San Diego, Drs. Cipes and Chisholm both presented to their colleagues.
Dr. Cipes gave a presentation on “How Does Evidence Based Dentistry Fit into
a Busy Practice” and Dr. Chisholm gave a presentation on “Creating a Picture
Guide for Your Practice for Children with Autism.”

Get it Done by Age 1
Following the AAPD's recommendation to have the first dental visit by age 1, Dr. Cipes' twin grandsons (and Dr. Chisholm's nephews) had their first dental visit!
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) recommends that parents should establish a dental home for infants by 12 months of age. The initial visit includes a thorough medical and dental history, an oral examination, age-appropriate toothbrushing and oral hygiene instructions, and a cleaning and fluoride application if it is indicated. This visit also helps us develop an individualized prevention plan for the child, so they can remain cavity free.
We also take the opportunity to discuss dental and oral development, the prevention of tooth decay, any habits your child might have, injury prevention, and the effects of diet on the dentition.

Give Kids a Smile®
On February 3rd, 2012 Cipes Pediatric Dentistry will be participating in Give Kids a Smile®. Give Kids A Smile® is a program sponsored by the ADA. The goal of the program is to enhance the oral health of children in need. Each year on the first Friday in February, thousands of dental teams around the nation provide free oral health care services to children from low-income families.

Employees of the Year
WEST HARTFORD, Ct., January 20, 2012 — Local employees Maren Madden and Jennifer Ashcraft, both of West Hartford; and Hipolita Fernandez, of Manchester, have been named “Employees of the Year” at Cipes Pediatric Dentistry. Major League Baseball was the theme for this year’s banquet, and the awards reflected this theme.
